Tri-campus guidelines provided by UW Seattle for the 2021 Commencement season
Each campus’ main commencement ceremony and all school, college and departmental graduation celebrations will be held virtually.
Units may offer appropriate “drop-in” or “drive-up” opportunities by appointment, to offer congratulations, present awards or gifts, or provide final touch points for students – within the following parameters:
Any engagements cannot replicate a graduation ceremony, such as by distributing diplomas and/or by having students line up and pose on and/or walk across a stage.
Organized drop-in and drive-up opportunities must occur after May 15
On the Tacoma campus, the central administration will facilitate a number of safe, in-person opportunities for graduates to celebrate their achievements outside during the weeks leading up to commencement. More details forthcoming.
The planned installations include:
Installing our celebratory Class of 2021 banner across the Grand Staircase
Setting up a temporary photo backdrop on campus
Creating an online guide to the best photo spots on campus
We are working on additional opportunities to celebrate our graduates during the traditional spring timeframe that are designed around ideas generated during a Community Conversation with undergraduate and graduate students. We will continue to work on opportunities to recognize the achievements of the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 in the future. Please check the Commencement website for the most up to date information.
In addition, the UWAA will be offering complimentary memberships to the Class of 2021, welcoming alumni into the Husky alumni family through a variety of communications as in past years to support the virtual ceremonies.
