A substantive policy draft regarding teaching peer review policy for use in evaluation, promotion, and tenure decisions (in conjunction with the Faculty Council).
Building internal excellence
To train multiple trainers in different best practices of modern teaching. These practices would move support educating, exploring, and engaging students in both qualitative and quantiative disciplines, being responsive to the changing demographic of our student body. These trainers would offer workshops several times per year specifically oriented to the Milgard faculty.
Student focus groups
Meet with students in small groups to discuss past experiences with best teaching practices.
Collaborate with the various Milgard Centers to develop community partnerships that foster student project based learning opportunities.

Interdisciplinary lightening research talks (Quarterly)
Increase the visibility of interdisciplinary research of faculty, and promote the breadth of collaborative research efforts. Each quarterly research talk will be held at the beginning of a faculty meeting.
Promote the visibility of scholarship among the Milgard community
Build an infrastructure for students, faculty and community to share and access research opportunities with ease.
Milgard research workshop series
To provide an opportunity for faculty to connect with external research community and improve their visibility; aim for 1-2 speakers first year.

Study abroad development
Continue to develop Milgard Study Abroad (SA) programs for undergraduate, graduate and executive education. Goal: a consistent offering of four Milgard Study Abroad programs/year, with a target of 20% of Milgard students participating in a Study Abroad program before graduation.
Clarify processes, requirements (and possible expectations) for visiting scholars.
Virtual global connections
Explore alternative ways for global connections in the classroom.
Funding of study abroad scholarships
Seek increased funding for Study Abroad scholarships for Milgard students to participate in a SA program before graduation.

UWT Alumni Day 2019
Together Milgard faculty and staff have proposesd to host the second annual alumni day at UW Tacoma. This will include guest alumni speaker(s), luncheon, and tour of newer facilities for alums to see growth and progress of campus. Event to be held in May 2019.
BOOTCAMP FOR STUDENTS

Milgard Gold (Student Professional Preparation Certificate)
Students will complete a series of tasks to earn a professional preparation certificate they can put on their resume.
A series of informal events students can attend to have discussions with employers and faculty about professional preparation.

Provide support and incentives for students to complete excel and or other Microsoft Certification.

Propose an interactive faculty discussion to explore the connections between our school’s mission, the research activities it supports, and the implications for faculty careers.
Faculty & staff onboarding process
Develop materials and a system to onboard new Milgard faculty and staff. These materials and experiences will offer an opportunity to help new Milgard staff and faculty feel a sense of connection and understanding of their role.
Ensuring all employees understand how their performance will be evaluated. Specific to staff performance as another group is looking at merit review process for faculty.
