Counseling & Psychological Services invites applications for Doctoral Preinternship training each winter for two positions that begin in September (prior to the start of Autumn Quarter) and continue to the end of Spring Quarter in June.
Clinical Experience Offered: Preinternship involves 12-16 hours weekly on-site, including 8 individual client hours, 1 hour of individual supervision (provided by a psychologist licensed for at least two years), 1 hour of didactic seminar/case conference, and time for charting/notes, case management, and preparation for supervision. The didactic seminar includes a rotation of presentations by CAPS staff and interns, as well as quarterly case presentations by preinterns and periodic case consultation, with doctoral psychology interns facilitating (supervised by a licensed psychologist). There are also opportunities to co-facilitate campus outreach presentations. Preinternship trainees record their sessions, utilize Titanium Schedule software to complete notes, and are provided private offices for their work. A comprehensive orientation is provided in September to ensure that preinterns are socialized into the CAPS team as well as UW Tacoma campus services, and are prepared to provide resource referrals and document their notes in the electronic system.
