Freshman Students

 

Jump Start to Success Days

Pre-Orientation programs are a great way to start your UW Tacoma experience. It is your opportunity to take care of important business before Husky Orientation Week in September. 
 

Registration  Program Dates

We strongly recommend using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer as your browser when registering for Jump Start/Orientation

*On Wednesday (6/21) and Thursday (6/22), we will have special advising for students with substantial college credts (Running Start, College in the High School, AP, IB)

The program is highly encouraged for First Year Freshmen needing to:

  1. Take Math and Writing Placement
  2. Explore your strengths toward a career
  3. Meet your Academic Advisor
  4. Register for classes

Please Note: Attending Jump Start to Success Days does not qualify as fulfilling your Orientation requirement. Jump Start to Success Days is designed exclusively for NSEOF confirmed students at the UW Tacoma to meet other new students, register for classes, take math and/or writing placements, navigate the campus, and to get questions answered.

 

Husky Orientation Week

Husky Orientation Week (H.O.W.) is your academic and social orientation to the UW Tacoma and helps you transition to life as a new Husky. This is your chance to meet your new classmates, meet Peer Advisors, learn about UW Tacoma’s academic, social, and campus expectations, and to have fun! 

As a newly admitted student, you are required to attend Husky Orientation Week before you receive your Husky ID Card. You will register for an orientation when you register for Jump Start to Success. See the registration link above

 Orientation Dates 

  • Wednesday, September 20
  • Thursday, September 21
  • Friday, September 22 (Court 17 Housing Students)

Running Start Students

 

If you are a high school student that has earned more than 45 credits through a combination of AP, IB, or Running Start you should register for a September Freshman Orientation session. 

Running Start students are required to attend an on campus orientation before receiving a Husky ID card.

Transfer Students

 

Husky Orientation Week

Husky Orientation Week (H.O.W.) is your academic and social orientation to the UW Tacoma and helps you transition to life as a new Husky. This is your chance to meet your new classmates, meet Peer Advisors, learn about UW Tacoma’s academic, social, and campus expectations, and to have fun! Completing an orientation (on campus or online) is required for all Transfer students before receiving your Husky ID card. Transfer students can register for classes prior to orientation but are encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor.

As a newly admitted student, you will be required to complete an orientation (online or on campus) before you receive your Husky ID Card.

Transfer Students

  • Monday, September 18, from 9:00 - 1:30 
  • Tuesday, September 19, from 9:00 - 1:30
  • Tuesday, September 19, from 3:00 - 7:30
     

Online Orientation

The overall goal of the Online Orientation is to provide you with a seamless transition to the University of Washington Tacoma.

  • Online Orientation is offered to transfer students unable to attend an on-campus orientation session. We strongly recommend participation in an on-campus orientation program whenever possible.
  • As a transfer student Orientation is not required to register for classes
  • The online orientation will be sent to the UW email of newly enrolled Autumn Quarter undergraduate students beginning Monday, September 18.

Once the online orientation is completed, students are able to pick up their Husky ID card after Husky Orientation has completed, beginning Monday, September 25 from the Office of the Registrar, Mattress Factory (MAT) 253, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    International Students

    International Student Services have prepared an online information session which covers International Student specific information. Please be sure to complete the New International Student Online Information Session before attending orientation.

    There is NO International Student specific orientation program. International Students attend orientation programs along with domestic students. Please attend the orientation that fits your student types; Freshmen, Running Start or Transfer Students.

    At the end of your orientation day, please attend the New International Students Meet and Greet Session. You can meet New International Students as well as ISS staff during this brief session.

    Welcome to the University of Washington Tacoma! We encourage parents/families to attend orientation with their students to hear about resources and support services. It is an exciting time for families and we look forward to meeting and answering your questions about resources that can support your student.
