Husky Orientation Week

Husky Orientation Week is your academic and social orientation to the UW Tacoma and helps you transition to life as a new Husky. This is your chance to meet your new classmates, meet peer mentors, learn about UW Tacoma’s academic, social, and campus expectations, and to have fun! Completing an orientation (on campus or through Canvas) is required for all students before receiving your Husky ID card. Students can register for classes prior to orientation but are encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor.

Freshman and Running Start Students

As a newly admitted student, you are required to complete an on-campus orientation before you receive your Husky ID Card.

Online Orientation

The overall goal of the Online Orientation is to provide you with a seamless transition to the University of Washington Tacoma.

  • Online Orientation is offered to transfer students unable to attend an on-campus orientation session. We strongly recommend participation in an on-campus orientation program whenever possible.
  • As a transfer student Orientation is not required to register for classes.
  • You can complete online orientation, known as Transition 201, through Canvas.
  • You will receive an email once Transition 201 is live, typically after the on campus orientation has completed.

Once the online orientation is completed, students are able to pick up their Husky ID card after Orientation has completed, beginning the Monday after orientation from the Office of the Registrar, Mattress Factory (MAT) 253, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Please contact the Office of Student Transition Programs at 253-692-4421 or uwtstp@uw.edu for questions. If you have any health issues, or mental health concerns that may impact your ability to attend, study or complete coursework, please contact the Disability Resources for Students office. The physical office is located on campus inside the Mattress Factory, room 354. Their phone number is 253-692-4508, and their email is drsuwt@uw.edu.

    International Students

International Student & Scholar Services has prepared two different international student sessions that cover International Student specific information. Please be sure to complete the F-1 Student Visa and Health Insurance Info Session before attending New International Student Orientation on September 25.

International Students should also attend orientation programs along with domestic students. Please attend the orientation that fits your student types; Freshmen, Running Start or Transfer Students. If you have questions about the orientation requirements for international students, please contact uwtiss@uw.edu.
