The 7th Annual Global Engagement Conference on May 20 drew around 200 attendees for panel and poster presentations by students from UW Tacoma and area institutions connected to the theme “Innovation Across Borders”.

During Fall Quarter 2025, study abroad, local site visits of global activities, and national residencies filled the global learning experiences of students in the IIGE.

Students, faculty, and community members packed the GID Lab for the IIGE's Fall Welcome on October 3, 2025. A fun and interactive session with Advisory Board members Tim Strege, Jennifer English, Elizabeth Donkervoort, and Phil Jacobs drew out career experiences and aspirations.

In October and November, over 40 Mechanical Engineering students worked through the design thinking process to apply to their Senior Capstone Project for industry clients.

Summer and Fall 2025 brought state and regional clients to the GID Lab, to solve through challenges of federal cuts to health and human services.

Summer and Fall 2024 brought exciting projects to the UW Tacoma Global Innovation and Design (GID) Lab, as clients in business, industry, government, education, and non profit sectors grappled with moving policies to action and removing barriers to critical resources.

Global Honors undergraduate student, Reese Ramirez, led a panel discussion at the 2024 Notre Dame Peace Conference among postgraduates in April 2024 Ramirez shared his reflection on his time at Notre Dame and gives thanks to those who made this opportunity a reality.

The Design Thinking Applied Project digital badge is awarded to students and community participants engaging in the full design thinking cycle on a project, internship, or academic course undertaken by the Lab.

NextGen grew steadily from 11 to 34 students during its inaugural year, attracting enthusiastic students from 12 majors. A dozen graduated this Spring. Next year a Student Organization will strengthen connections across UW campuses and 19 universities in the NextGen network.
