Harlan Patterson will come to UW Tacoma after serving as vice provost for planning and budgeting at UW in Seattle from 1997-2006.
The University of Washington Tacoma has named Harlan Patterson as its new vice chancellor for Administrative Services. Patterson is currently the executive director of the Washington Vaccine Alliance. He will start in at UW Tacoma on January 17.
Patterson already has significant experience at the University of Washington, starting as associate treasurer in 1990, moving to the position of director of finance for the School of Medicine three years later, and, from 1997-2006, serving as vice provost for planning and budgeting.
He has an MBA from the University of Washington, and a BS in business/accounting from Montana State University. He began his career at a CPA firm and then rose quickly through the ranks at Bank of America prior to joining the UW Seattle.
"Harlan is deeply committed to public higher education and the transformative power of education, particularly for first-generation students," said Chancellor Debra Friedman. "He is known for his success in forging partnerships and collaborations within the academy and beyond."
Patterson replaces Ysabel Trinidad, who accepted a position at California State University Channel Islands in November.
The project is part of UW Tacoma’s vision to revitalize its campus core, one of the strategic areas of focus outlined in its recently completed campus master plan.
