UW Tacoma selects Maslow's Campus Communities as development partner for on-campus student housing and dining project

The University of Washington has selected Maslow's Campus Communities as the development partner for UW Tacoma's student housing and dining development project, marking a significant step in bringing the long-awaited amenities to the campus community.

The selection follows a competitive request for qualifications and proposals process that attracted multiple teams interested in partnering with the university on the first major project to move forward under its campus master plan. With this milestone, the project will advance to the negotiation and design phase of development.

The project team also includes West Coast-based architectural firm SERA Architects and Pacific Northwest general contractor Walsh Construction Co. The team’s selection is subject to approval by the UW Board of Regents.

“One of the topics I’m often asked about is when the University of Washington Tacoma will have traditional dorms and an on-campus dining hall,” said UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange. “Our student housing and dining development project is a big step forward for our campus, and we are excited to work with Maslow's Campus Communities to make this a reality for our students and our community.”

Planned as a public-private partnership and scheduled to open in late 2029, the project will add housing for nearly 500 additional students to live on campus and include UW Tacoma’s first traditional dining hall, offering healthy, flexible meal options and a welcoming space for students to gather and connect.

The project is part of UW Tacoma’s vision to revitalize its campus core, one of the strategic areas of focus outlined in the university’s master plan.

Developed in partnership with world-renowned design firm Bjarke Ingels Group, the plan supports UW Tacoma's long-term goal of increasing its total enrollment to 10,000 students while expanding its physical footprint in downtown Tacoma. Once complete, campus boundaries will extend from S. 17th Street to S. 21st Street, and from Pacific Avenue to Tacoma Avenue.
