Women in Tech: Katalina Biondi in Husky 100
Katalina Biondi, '19 Computer Science & Systems, is one of the 2019 Husky 100.
Katalina Biondi, graduating this year with a B.S. in Computer Science & Systems and Mathematics, has been named to the 2019 Husky 100.
The university-wide honor recognizes graduate and undergraduate students who are making the most of their time at UW.
A passage from Aristotle opens an excerpt from Biondi’s application for the award:
“ ‘Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution….’ These wise words from Aristotle have driven my success at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT). I am passionate about connecting the knowledge I learn at UWT to applications to benefit my community. Through UWT, I am a student, a facilitator, a Senator, a researcher, and a registered student organization leader.”
UW Tacoma published a profile of Biondi in April, “Becoming Biondi.” The TCC transfer student credits counselors at that school with steering her from medicine to computer science. She says her high level of engagement at UW Tacoma stems from a friendship with a fellow student and a faculty member who turned her on to research.
There are six students from UW Tacoma in the 2019 Husky 100, including Mira Farrow, M.A. Interdisciplinary Studies; Isabell Murray, B.A. Law & Policy, Global Honors; Norma Purdom, MSW, Social Work; Ashley Richards, B.A. Sustainable Urban Development and Environmental Studies, Global Honors; and Long Tran, B.A. Communication and Gender & Sexuality Studies, Global Honors.
