Anything that will include the UW Tacoma logo or name (other than printed materials such as brochures and postcards) needs to be ordered through a UW-licensed vendor. This is a vendor that has been pre-approved by the Trademarks Office to use UW branding. The four vendors we work with most frequently are:
- 4imprint
Contact: no primary contact, all ordering is handled through their website
- PromoShop*
Contact: Matthew Mason, mmason@promoshopwa.com or 206-659-8008
Contact: Jacob Fletcher, jacob@imagesourceteam.com or 425-898-2991
- Brand Pride** (formerly Zippy Dogs)
Contact: Elise Lindborg, elise@brand-pride.com or 206-938-8828
You can review the full list of vendors on the Trademarks & Licensing site. Please note that if you are planning on selling the items -- even as a fundraiser -- you will be required to pay a royalty fee.
Marketing & Communications can help you with creating artwork for licensed vendors. You can send us the specifications for what you are ordering and what you want to include.
*PromoShop is a certified minority-owned business.
**Brand Pride is a certified woman-owned business.
Tips when ordering promotional items
- Most promotional items will take 3 - 4 weeks to arrive, so it is important to plan ahead. Some items can be received in as little as 1 - 2 weeks, but there may be a rush charge involved.
- The imprint area for many common promotional items is small — there isn't a whole lot of room on the barrel of a pen. Stick to the basics: a logo, and a website or phone number. Trying to fit too much in will mean nothing stands out.
- The designs on any promotional item must be approved by the UW Trademarks office. The vendor should handle this review process for you, but designs may be rejected if they do not comply with brand standards.
- The University is required to pay sales tax on the purchase of promotional items and most vendors will also charge shipping costs -- which can be substantial on heavy items. Don't forget to factor these costs into your budget.
- Most vendors will require you to submit a Royalty Waiver form (a few will do it for you). Items that are being sold (or included as part of an event fee) must pay a royalty. Licensing is also now charging royalty on items that use just a UW Tacoma logo, so we recommend you include an office name or website or other customizing element.
Can Advancement provide items for me?
Advancement keeps a small supply of promotional items on hand to use for donor stewardship and VIP visits. We cannot generally give out these items for other purposes. Contact Kylie Lanthorn for more information.
