MSW How to Apply

Applying for admission to the Master of Social Work program is a two-part process requiring application to the University of Washington Graduate School and submission of required supplemental materials to the Master of Social Work Program.

Plan Ahead

Make note of the application date for the program(s) in which you wish to apply. Visit UW Tacoma's Application Dates page for details on all graduate programs offered at the Tacoma campus. Remember, several items are required to complete your application, and items such as transcripts and letters of reference often take several weeks to arrive. NOTE: Your application will not be reviewed for admission until all materials have been received.

Apply to the UW Graduate School

Applying to the UW Graduate School is a part of the MSW application process. All applicants must complete the UW Graduate School application online for our MSW program options.The UW Graduate School application fee is $75. A copy must be submitted with your application to the UW Tacoma MSW Program. If you are planning to apply to the 3-yr, MSW program as well as the Advanced Standing MSW program you must submit two separate applications and corresponding fees to the UW Graduate School.

Applicants must upload an unofficial transcript from every college or university attended as part of the UW Graduate School application online submission.

Note: An official transcript showing degree(s) conferred will be required by the UW Graduate School and UW Tacoma Social Work Program if offered admission.

Mail or Deliver Your UW Tacoma MSW Application Packet

Your completed application packet must contain the materials listed below. All of the necessary forms and instructions will be included in the MSW application packet. Please be sure to make copies of your application materials. All materials submitted become the property of the University of Washington Tacoma Social Work Program and we are unable to return any materials or provide copies.

3. Current résumé
4. Social Service Experience form
5. Three letters of reference
6. Conviction/Criminal History Information form
7. Authorization for Repeat Background checks and Dissemination of Results form
