University of Washington, Tacoma Graduate Social Work
Simon Family Endowment Autism MSW Fellowship
Empowering Future Social Workers to Transform Lives
About the Fellowship
Established in 2017 through a generous gift to the University of Washington Tacoma’s Graduate Social Work Division, the Simon Family Endowment (SFE) honors and supports graduate social work students committed to lifelong care for adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Intellectual Disabilities (ID). This prestigious fellowship addresses the urgent need for skilled providers in the South Sound region, preparing MSW students to become compassionate practitioners and advocates.
Fellowship Goals
The Simon Family Endowment Autism MSW Fellowship offers practicum-based fieldwork opportunities that equip Fellows to:
- Help to promote independence and self-determination
- Foster social and employment skills
- Support physical and behavioral health
- Recognize each adult as a unique and valued member of the community
With rising national demand for neurodevelopmental care, UW Tacoma’s Autism MSW Fellowship positions the university as a destination MSW program—delivering life-changing services and shaping the future of inclusive care.
Fellowship Award
Selected Fellows receive up to $6,000 per year, subject to funding availability. Funds are distributed quarterly beginning in June each year and while the Fellow is in a field placement (practicum) serving clients with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
