Making an impact on Asian-American and Pacific Islander students and those who support them
The UW Tacoma Asian American Pacific Islander (AA&PI) Impact Endowment was established through the generosity of UW Tacoma’s retired Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and CIO, Patrick Pow, and his family. According the Higher Education Act, UW Tacoma is a federally-designated Asian American / Native American / Pacific Islander-serving institution with 22% of its students being Asian American or Pacific Islander.
The Pows are passionate about ensuring access to educational opportunities for AA&PI students—and to those who support them. They hope to inspire generations of AA&PI students and others to pay it forward and make a positive impact on our region and its diverse communities.
The AA&PI Endowment, managed by UW Tacoma’s Office of Equity and Inclusion, advances initiatives that provide student support and faculty professional development focused on inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogies. Additionally, the endowment prioritizes programming that encourages civic engagement, internship opportunities, health equity, intergenerational connections and upward social mobility.
