Native & Indigenous Higher Education Symposium
Each fall, the Native & Indigenous Higher Education Symposium serves to create a reflection of Native culture that fosters a sense of belonging at UW Tacoma for Native and Indigenous students, raise awareness of the contributions and challenges of Native and Indigenous people, and instill a college-going culture within these younger generations from these communities.
Cedar Circle
Cedar Circle (Est. 2022) has been founded as a student-led, Indigenous centered student RSO that operates with the intent to prioritize and uplift the presence and education of Indigenous/Native American culture on the UW Tacoma campus. Cedar Circle serves as an inclusive, positive, accessible opportunity and experience for all Indigenous students at the University of Washington Tacoma. This RSO abides by established university policies.
Indigenous Family Lunch
The Center for American Indian & Indigenous Studies (CAIIS) hosts Indigenous Family Lunch, Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarter on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the syayəʔadiʔ (WCG 104).
Indigenous Speaker Series
The Indigenous Speaker Series materialized in 2015 as an initiative of Dr. Michelle Montgomery at the University of Washington Tacoma through community conversations, and is an expansion of her ongoing community initiatives. The series is a multi-purpose platform that promotes community partnerships, amplifies the voices of Indigenous people, and dialogues about Indigenous People’s cultural and traditional lived experiences.
