To ensure a successful start at UW Tacoma, all new students are required to complete each step in the Orientation process. These steps are designed to prepare you for your first quarter and must be completed in order.
Online Orientation is required for all admitted students and must be completed before you can move forward in the Orientation process.
In this step, you will complete your Online Orientation modules and learn about key academic resources, campus services, and what to expect as a UW Tacoma student.
Completing Online Orientation allows you to move forward with New Student Advising & Registration (NSAR).
Log in using your UW NetID and password to get started:
Many students will need to complete a Math Directed Self-Placement, and all admitted first-year students will receive information about the self-directed Writing Placement Reflection. Students planning to take Spanish courses may also need to complete a Spanish Placement.
To ensure you are eligible to enroll and begin classes, complete the following requirements:
Immunity Verification
Submit documentation showing you are vaccinated against or otherwise immune to measles, mumps, and meningococcal meningitis. This requirement must be completed by the first day of the quarter.
Submit Transcripts
Send your final official high school transcript once your graduation and coursework are posted. If you have taken any college-level courses (including Running Start or College in the High School), you must also submit final official college transcripts.
Transcripts can be sent electronically through a secure service (such as Parchment) or mailed to:

All new students are required to meet with an Academic Advisor during a New Student Advising & Registration (NSA&R) session before they can register for classes. Keep an eye on your email for a message from University Academic Advising with instructions on how to sign up. Before scheduling your session, make sure you've completed your Online Orientation.

All new students are required to complete the following online trainings as part of the Orientation process. These courses are designed to help you build a safe, respectful, and informed campus community.
Husky Prevention & Response (HPR)
Husky Prevention & Response is a required online course focused on preventing sex- and gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination. Through this course, you will learn how to build respectful environments, understand consent and healthy relationships, recognize harmful behaviors, and access campus resources and reporting options.
Completion of this course is required for all new students. Students who do not complete the course will have a registration hold placed on their account.
Hazing Prevention 101
Hazing Prevention 101 is a required online course that helps students identify, prevent, and report hazing. You will learn how to recognize hazing behaviors, understand their impact, and take action to create a safe and respectful campus community.
Completion of this course is required for all incoming students.
We’re excited to welcome new students to an in-person Orientation! During this session, you will: learn more about what to expect as a UW Tacoma student, hear about vital resources and where to find your classes, participate in the challenge coin tradition and student passport, and meet staff and learn where key offices are located. Attendance is required for all new students.
Please contact uwtnsp@uw.edu if you have a hardship and need to request an exemption.
[Registration will open soon]
Multi-Factor Authentication
The UW requires 2FA for your UW NetID account. You’ll need Duo for 2FA, then you’ll enable 2FA for your UW NetID to access UW online systems, such as Canvas, Zoom, MyUW and others.
Optional Experiences
Family & Friends Orientation
Orientation isn’t just for students— family members play a crucial role in the success of college students. We invite you to participate in a Family Orientation program, designed to help you become familiar with resources and guide you through your student’s transition process. The Family Orientation experience takes place during the student orientation and will allow you to: gain more of a feel for the campus community, learn about campus resources, connect with staff, faculty and current students, and learn what it means to be a Husky.
Pack Advisors
New students are assigned to one of four packs (Purple, Gold, Black or Gray). Your pack will help you get to know other students, participate in activities and be provided with helpful resources. Learn more about and engage with the Pack Advisors!
Disability Resources for Students
Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made at least 10 days in advance to an event. To request an accommodation, including American Sign Language interpretation, contact the New Student and Family Programs at 253-692-4742 or by email at uwtnsp@uw.edu.
Questions?
If you have any questions, email uwtstp@uw.edu. Please be prepared to provide your first name, last name and student ID number in your email.
