Introduction
The Healthcare Leadership Fieldwork class, THLEAD 480, prepares students for careers in leadership positions across the healthcare spectrum. Fieldwork provides the opportunity to apply theory to practice. Over the duration of the Healthcare Leadership program students have had coursework in: business, budgetary analysis, financial decision making, social marketing, ethics, research, informatics, accreditation, legal issues, and personnel management.
Students work with the Clinical Placement Manager to determine a fieldwork placement that aligns with the student's professional goals and interests.
Fieldwork Expectations
These students are generally not healthcare providers, but are interested in careers in the healthcare field. Fieldwork placements are for spring quarter and planning begins in autumn. The fieldwork runs across ten weeks - typically from March – June. Fieldwork consists of six hours "in the field" and an additional two hours of class per week for ten weeks (60 total hours of fieldwork).
