This message was sent to a subset of students at UW Tacoma. Contact the Office of the Registrar for details.
Dear Student,
Welcome to the Autumn 2023 quarter at the University of Washington Tacoma! I am checking in with you today because your status is as a non-resident for tuition purposes. If you know that you are correctly assigned as a non-resident, there is no need to read this message any further..
There are two primary ways students may qualify for a change in residency classification.
- The Residency Affidavit: Review the criteria below. The affidavit is for newly admitted students in their first quarter. If you meet all 3, complete and sign the affidavit for consideration. This is regardless of citizenship or immigration status in most cases.
- Received a high school diploma (or equivalent).
- Maintain a primary residence in Washington for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before your first term. The Washington residence must be for purposes other than college. If you take any courses at another Washington college during the prior 12 months, you cannot have taken more than six credits in any given term. If you exceed that limit you must prove that you have a Washington residence for non-college reasons.
- Affirm that they are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or that they will file an application to become a permanent resident of the United States as soon as they are eligible to apply.
- The Residency Questionnaire: If you do not meet the above, you may qualify and apply for a change once you have resided in Washington a period of 12 months and meet these additional criteria. Consider checking with our office once you have been here 12 months.
The deadline to submit for a change in resident classification for Autumn 2023 is October 26th, 2023.
