Congratulations to the Class of 2016!
The University of Washington Tacoma holds one Commencement ceremony each year, at the end of spring quarter. Students who have graduated the previous autumn or winter quarter, along with students who have applied to graduate in spring or summer quarter, are encouraged to participate.
Tickets are required for all guests attending Commencement. Each graduating student will receive five tickets for the 2016 Commencement. Please note that only those students registered for Commencement are eligible to receive tickets. for more information please visit our tickets page.
Online registration for the 2016 Commencement is now closed. If you still need to register you can do so at Cap and Gown pick-up Thursday, June 2 (12 - 7 p.m.) or Friday, June 3 (12 - 6 p.m.) in Philip Hall.
Hon. Frank E. Cuthberston
Pierce County Superior Court Presiding Judge Frank E. Cuthbertson has had a distinguished career as a community organizer, civil rights advocate, legal counsel and judge. When appointed to the bench in 2001, he was the first African American to serve on the Superior Court and his subsequent re-election marked the first time an African American had won a county-wide ballot.
Born in New York City, Judge Cuthbertson got a degree from Duke University, and came to the northwest to get his JD from University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University School of Law).
Among many accolades, Judge Cuthbertson was named Judge of the Year in 2010 by the American Board of Trial Advocates. He recently received the 2014 Service to Diversity Award from the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association.
