UW Tacoma to host annual Husky Fest community celebration on April 18
The University of Washington Tacoma will host Husky Fest, a free, annual block party celebrating the university’s connection to Tacoma and the South Sound region on Saturday, April 18. Held alongside UW Tacoma’s Admitted Student Day, the event is expected to draw thousands of students, families and community members to campus.
With interactive activities for all ages, the event features food trucks, live performances, community organizations and appearances by UW Tacoma’s mascot, Hendrix the Husky. Attendees will also have opportunities to learn about the university’s academic offerings and connect with students, faculty and staff in a welcoming, festive atmosphere.
“Husky Fest is more than a high-energy welcome for our newest class of Tacoma Huskies to campus — it’s also an opportunity to invite the community to experience our university and see what's possible through pursuing higher education,” said UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange. “We look forward to hosting this year’s festivities and to celebrating UW Tacoma’s cherished connection to our city and our region.”
Husky Fest is free and open to the public. Community members who want to experience UW Tacoma firsthand are encouraged to attend, along with current and prospective students, families, alumni and residents from across the South Sound.
The event will take place Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the University of Washington Tacoma campus at 1900 Commerce St. Parking will be free on campus during the event.
