Healthcare Leadership Fieldwork

Introduction

The BA degree in Healthcare Leadership utilizes an interdisciplinary approach that prepares students for careers in leadership positions across the healthcare spectrum. In their final quarter, students are required to participate in a fieldwork internship, which consists of six hours of fieldwork in addition to two hours of classes a week for ten weeks (60 total hours of fieldwork). The level of learner and relevant learning objectives are briefly described below.

Fieldwork Expectations

These students are generally not healthcare providers, but are interested in careers in the healthcare field. Fieldwork placements are for spring quarter and planning begins in autumn. The fieldwork runs across ten weeks - typically from March – June.

• Fieldwork provides the opportunity to apply theory to practice
• Over the duration of the program students have had coursework in: business, budgetary analysis, financial decision making, social marketing, ethics, research, informatics, accreditation and legal issues, and personnel management
