Overview: Competing for Limited Submission Opportunities (LSOs) presented by the UW Seattle Office of Research (October 2025)
This virtual session was hosted by Cecilia Giachelli, Associate Vice Provost for Research, and Lene Hansen, Director of Foundation Relations, as part of the UW wide Fall 2025 Office of Research Seminar Series. The workshop provided an overview of how LSOs are managed at the University of Washington and offer tips for navigating the internal application process.
Fall Royalty Research Fund (RRF) Proposal Information Workshop presented by Kara Luckey (September 2025)
The Royalty Research Fund (RRF) is an excellent opportunity open to faculty across UW campuses that provides one-year awards of up to $40,000 to advance new scholarly directions and creative activities, particularly:
‒ in disciplines for which external funding opportunities are minimal;
‒ for faculty who are junior in rank; and/or
‒ in support of increasing competitiveness for subsequent funding.
Kara's presentation gives helpful insight into how the RRF can support your work, the components of a RRF proposal, and the submission process. Kara also offers tips for maximizing competitiveness based on advice shared by the RRF Committee Chair, Committee Members and Program Administrator, as well as on Kara’s experiences supporting UWT faculty in preparing successful RRF proposals.
Kara also explains changes to the RRF Process for Fall 2025:
- Faculty eligibility is now limited to Assistant and Associate Professors (including Research, Teaching, and WOT faculty). Full Professors are no longer eligible to submit new proposals.
- Co-Is (formerly Co-PIs) are considered equal in status to the PI and must have a measurable role in the project. Including more than one Co-I requires justification.
- We now ask for a Lay Summary – rather than an abstract – on the proposal cover page.
- Zoom office hours to support applicant teams will be available from 1 to 2 pm on September 10, September 17, and September 24.
Final Proposal Elements are DUE to the UWT Office of Research on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
