Application Requirements
All SET programs require admission to UW Tacoma and activated UW student ID number to submit an application.
- Not yet admitted to UWT: You must be admitted to UWT and have a UW student ID number in order to submit your CES application. Apply for admission to UW Tacoma well before the program application deadline.
- Transfer Students: Depending on your intended major, community college students are strongly encouraged to pursue either the Associate in Science - Transfer Track 2 or the Associate of Science – Mechanical/Civil/Aero Major Related Program (MRP). Refer to the Admission section for your intended program for specifics. Use the UW Course Equivalency Guide to determine the equivalent prerequisites at your school.

How to Apply to a SET Undergraduate Program
- Apply for admission to UW Tacoma well before the program application deadline.
- Make sure you have completed at least 45 college-level credits, including the prerequisite courses for your intended major. See the appropriate Undergraduate Program description for specifics.
Students may apply for conditional admission with prerequisites in progress. If you are on track to complete the prerequisites by the end of the summer, you may be eligible to apply to UW Tacoma and the major for an autumn start. See the New student advisor/recruiter for assistance.
- See the Application requirements section for your intended major for application-specific requirements, deadlines and links:
- Civil Engineering (CE)
- Computer Engineering(CENGR)
- Computer Science & Systems (CSS, B.A. and B.S. options)
- Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Information Technology (IT)
- Mechanical Engineering (ME)
- Submit your program application following the deadlines and process outlined on the application website. Note that there's a specific application for each major.
SET programs generally admit students once per year for Autumn quarter only. We recommend you submit your application before the July 1 priority application deadline. Applications may close at any time after the priority deadline once the program reaches capacity.
Selection Criteria
These are general guidelines. See the undergraduate program description for your intended major for specifics.
Strong applicants typically have grades of 3.0 and higher in prerequisite math, science, engineering and programming courses, as well as a good cumulative GPA.
Your application is evaluated on the following criteria:
- Completion of all prerequisite courses
- Grades in prerequisite courses -- individually and cumulatively (competitive applicants will have earned at least a 2.5 in each prerequisite course)
- Overall previous academic performance
