In collaboration with Writing Studies faculty, the writing center offers the annual Writing Fellows Institute, a week-long faculty development seminar to support faculty teaching writing in the disciplines. Writing Fellows is currently led by Rebecca Disrud, director of the writing center, and LeAnne Laux-Bachand, Associate Teaching Professor in Writing Studies, and runs the second full week of September.
The workshops include research from writing studies and the scholarship of teaching and learning to help faculty identify bottlenecks in student learning, design effective assignments and assess them equitably and efficiently, and support writing habits of mind with in-class activities. Faculty may also receive support in fulfilling the UWT W-course guidelines and identifying curricular opportunities to expand writing experiences for students. All participants are expected to complete some preparatory readings through Canvas and share an application to their teaching context at the end of the institute.
The Writing Fellows Institute carries a stipend for faculty who complete all of the workshops. Faculty from all schools are invited to nominate or self-nominate in spring quarter. Look for our email inviting nominations. Faculty are also welcome to contact Rebecca Disrud or LeAnne Laux-Bachand at any time to express interest or for more information.
