Applications for the 2026-27 fellowship are now open. Application deadline: April, 17, 2026
The Newman Civic Fellowship is a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers at institutions that collaborate with Campus Compact like the University of Washington Tacoma. Fellows are nominated by their chancellor based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change.
Students are nominated by faculty, staff, administrators, community partners, or can self-nominate for consideration by the chancellor. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for nomination.
The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes community-committed students who:
- Engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change
- Take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization
- Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement
Student Nominees eligibility:
- Be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at your institution (with preference for undergraduate students).
- Have at least one year of their education remaining (either at their current institution or at a different one) at the date of nomination so that they are enrolled as a student for the full duration of their fellowship (September '26 to May '27).
