Global Honors Students Showcase Research at Western Regional Honors Conference
Five University of Washington Tacoma Global Honors students attended the 2026 Western Regional Honors Conference at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to present their research, an annual event that brings together student research from across the western United States.
The Global Honors Program is the University of Washington Tacoma's interdisciplinary campus honors program, adding distinction to the bachelor's degree. Students can further enhance their academic experience with a minor in Global Engagement or by earning digital badges in Global Leadership or Global Citizenship.
Highlighting the breadth of research in the Global Honors program, conference presentations included “The Economic Impact of Casinos on Native American Land in Washington State” (Kai Lee and Jordan Muir), “A Social Media Development Revolution: Slopaganda and the Firehose of Falsehood” (Quinn Sukys), “The Portrayal of Generational Trauma in Iraqi Films” (Jannat Musawi), and “Endurance Was the Final Outcome” (Karalea Zuber).
Students found the conference experience exceptionally valuable, particularly in strengthening their communication and presentation skills. Beyond presenting, students had the opportunity to engaged with other honors students and their research, and make connections with faculty and other professionals.
As Quinn Sukys, who presented his Global Honors thesis at the conference noted, “the experience enabled me to present my Global Honors Thesis to an audience that I would otherwise not have the means to reach.”
Muir, Lee, Sukys and Zuber received an Institute for Innovation and Global Engagement (IIGE) Travel and Conference Award to support their attendance.
