The University YMCA Student Center, operating as a full-service YMCA branch, offers a variety of fitness and recreation services to students, as well as the greater university and city community. From an NCAA regulation basketball court, to a climbing wall, to daily fitness classes, the University YMCA is a hub of student life on the UW Tacoma campus. Access to the fitness equipment and services in the University YMCA requires an active membership to the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. A membership is included in students' tuition and fees package.
Group Fitness & Intramurals
Enjoy working out in a group? The YMCA offers classes such as yoga, pilates, Barre and HIIT, as well as intramural sports such as volleyball and basketball. Check out the Y's schedules for more information and times. Intramural sports may require registration.
Workout Equipment
The University YMCA has a brand-new look! Following a renovation over Spring Break in 2025, the building features brand-new free weights, squat racks, and muscle isolation machines. On each floor, staff have added functionl fitness stations with astroturf. The third floor features a 1/12th-mile running track, and a new boxing station in the northeast corner.

Climbing Wall
Whether you're a rock climbing enthusiast or new to the hobby, the University YMCA indoor climbing won't be something that you want to miss trying. The wall includes various routes and difficulties and a trained YMCA staff member is available when the wall is open for use. Climbing wall hours of operation may vary.
