The Shared Equity Leadership Council is an initiative of the Office of Equity and Inclusion in partnership with representatives from the UW Tacoma campus units, departments and schools.
Purpose
Create campus-wide council that will bring together different areas of diversity related work around campus to begin mapping where we have strengths and opportunities, and to contribute to the implementation of the tri-campus Diversity Blueprint.
Benefits
Enhance internal capacity for shared equity leadership; seamless communication & engagement; localized capacity to advance the Office of Equity and Inclusion's strategic plan and learning outcomes; collaborative efforts, including training, events and workshops.
Process
Seek referrals and identify faculty and staff whose current responsibilities include advancing the values of diversity, equity and inclusion across academic/administrative units and invite them to serve as council members for a 2-year term. In addition, faculty, staff, and volunteers with relevant experience may be invited to serve. Registered Student Organizations (RSO) may also be invited to delegate representatives to the council.
Participation includes:
- Partnering with the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) to support the seamless implementation of the UW Diversity Blueprint.
- Co-leading professional development and programming activities designed to address recommendations from the campus climate survey and create a welcoming community.
- Participating in professional development designed to enhance our capacities to facilitate courageous conversations around campus climate issues such as race and racism, gender identity, etc.
- Partnering with the OEI to develop a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging action plan in alignment with the UW Tacoma strategic plan.
- Partnering with the OEI to develop meaningful learning outcomes and metrics to document the progress and impact of campus-wide diversity activities.
- Partnering with the Vice Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion (VCEI) to document and communicate accomplishments to the campus community.
