Meet the Director
Greg Rose
Bio
Dr. Gregory Rose is a Marketing Professor at UW Tacoma and the Director of the Distinction of Excellence. He has published several journal articles and book chapters that cover multiple areas of marketing including consumer socialization, cross-culture consumer behavior, brand personality, and sports marketing.
Dr. Rose has directed marketing research programs for several clients, including AT&T, Pepperidge Farms, Welch Foods, Kraft Dairy and American Express. He is currently serving on the editorial review board of the Journal of Business Research.

Admission Requirements
The Goal of the Distinction of Excellence Program is to enhance the educational experience of motivated students by fostering connections with business leaders and offering seminars and events that focus on career management and current trends in business thought.
Requirements:
- Junior Standing (90 Credits)
- 3.5 GPA or Higher
- Milgard Student
Winter 2026 Quarter applications are now open for anyone who will have a Junior standing (90 graded credits) at that time.

Seminar Style Classes
TBGEN 490 - Case Competition Preparation or Research Project
Autumn 2025 or To Be Arranged - 1 Credit
Students will choose from one of the following options:
- (Autumn, 2025) Discussion-oriented seminar designed to bolster your analysis skills and prepare you to participate in the annual UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility (CLSR) case competition, if you elect to participate.
- (Winter, 2026) Conduct a short research project in conjunction with and supervised by a faculty member.
TBGEN 360 - Marketing Yourself in Business
Winter 2026- 2 Credits
Assists you in launching and managing your career. Paired with a Mentor in the local business community.
TBGEN 460 - Readings in Business
Autumn 2026 - 2 Credits
In this final program class, you will examine and discuss recent groundbreaking writings in the field of business in a seminar format.
Frequently Asked Questions
Courses for the Distinction of Excellence Program are intentionally kept small and organized for group discussion. The professor is more of a facilitator who encourages collaborative discussions around ideas and concepts initiated by the course material. The emphasis is on critical thinking and analysis, and students are expected to contribute to discussion and respectful debate is welcomed.
All participants are expected to register for both seminar classes, attend one event per quarter and meet with their mentor according to the agreement set between the mentor and student.
