Career Development, Innovation, and Continuing to Empower Others
The Milgard Success Center and Center for Business Analytics hosted several highly impactful events this year. Providing business etiquette training, while the Career Fair connected students with top employers, and the FinTech Incubator Challenge shaped the future of Finance.
The Milgard Success Center's Annual Etiquette Dinner, held at the Museum of Glass, saw 130 participants and 12 business sponsors coming together to provide students with valuable business etiquette training. During the 3-course sit-down dinner, an etiquette trainer imparted essential knowledge on proper manners and dining in a semi-formal setting. Sponsors such as Deloitte, Enterprise Holdings, and Weyerhaeuser helped make this event possible, enabling students to gain skills for their future careers.
The Milgard Success Center Career and Internship Fair attracted 38 employers to the UW Tacoma campus. Over 200 business undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni had the opportunity to connect with these employers for potential full-time job opportunities and internships. Some students even secured job offers on the spot, while others were scheduled for interviews. The fair has earned a reputation for preparing Milgard students well, drawing positive feedback from employers.
Sound Credit Union and UW Tacoma's Milgard Center for Business Analytics launched the statewide FinTech Incubator Challenge. Washington residents were invited to submit their fintech ideas aimed at improving financial decision-making and affordability. The winner, Prasanth Chaitanya Gupta Arisetty, amazed our judges with Spendalyze, an app that tracks and analyzes transactions across all bank accounts and provides personalized offers to assist users with financial management. Chaitanya received a $10,000 prize, membership to UW's CoMotion Labs incubator, and collaboration opportunities with Sound executives. The challenge aimed to tap into Washington's talent pool of creative entrepreneurs and bring their innovative ideas to life, benefiting consumers in managing their finances.
