Student Affairs Team Spirit Award: Pack Advising Team (Summer 2021)

These 8 students worked so hard over the summer to learn about all of the services, programs, and offices around campus so they could provide our incoming students with the most accurate information. They had a unique challenge of operating in both virtual and in-person spaces, as they were working right on the cusp of our return to campus.

All summer long the Pack Advisors hosted a weekly Pack Chat over Zoom – these were open to all new students and highlighted a different office, RSO, or support services. I know they held at least 10 of these, but maybe more. I had the chance to join in for one when ASUWT was a featured guest, and the Pas did a fantastic job of building excitement and engagement among the participants.

 Another big lift the PAs did was to offer campus tours for students returning to campus – these were focused towards students who were virtual last year and would be attending class on campus for the first time. I don’t know how many they gave, but I know they were incredibly popular and sign-ups filled up very quickly! This was a huge benefit for our returning students who were having similar anxious feelings about navigating campus.

 Across the board what I think really makes the PAs and Monika deserving of this award is the obvious love for UW Tacoma that they have, and each other. The team is extremely tight, and a big part of that is through Monika’s leadership in building and developing the team. They are full of UW pride, support for each other, and excitement for this year! A big bulk of their work happened over the summer, and as such, I think they are especially deserving of the Summer Team Spirit Award.
