Scholarships & Fellowships
The Urban Studies program announces scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. There are two application cycles - Spring and Autumn.
Guidelines:
- Students can submit one application per cycle.
- Students will be automatically considered for every scholarship that he/she is eligible for.
- Students can accept one Urban Studies scholarship award per year.
- Applications are accepted on-line only.
- Applications that fail to meet the requirements or are incomplete will not be reviewed.
- Scholarship applicants may be asked to provide additional information.
- An email will be sent to all students who submit a complete application letting them know if they have been selected for an award.

Urban Studies Endowed Scholarship
Amount: $2,500
Purpose: Undergraduate or graduate student tuition, books, & fees during 2017-2018 year
Eligibility criteria: Recipients shall be full time enrolled undergraudate or graduate students accepted to or enrolled in an Urban Studies program - Urban Studies (BA), Sustainable Urban Development (BA), Master of Arts in Community Planning, or Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies. While not a requirement, consideration will be given for any of the following: active participation in programmatic student organizations; community involvement; or have international urban activites/interests.
2016-2017 Columbia Bank Scholarship
This scholarship, provided exclusively by Columbia Bank, will support a graduate student in the MS in Geospatial Technologies Program during the 2016-17 academic year. The selection of the winner will be made after one quarter of the program has been completed.
Amount: $5,000
Purpose: Graduate student tuition & fees during 2016-2017 year
Eligibility criteria: Recipient must be a current graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies. Selection of reciptient will also be based on academic merit or financial need. Financial need determined by the Office of Financial Aid; FAFSA required.
Erling O. Mork and Ryan Petty Endowed Scholarship
Amount: TBD
Purpose: Undergraduate student tuition & fees during 2017-2018 year
Eligibility criteria: Selection of reciptients will be based on academic merit or financial need. Financial need determined by the Office of Financial Aid; FAFSA required. Recipients must be accepted to or enrolled in an Urban Studies degree program - Urban Studies (BA), Sustainable Urban Development (BA), Master of Arts in Community Planning, or Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies. While not a requirement, consideration will be given for any of the following: active participation in programmatic student organizations; community involvement; or have international urban activites/interests.
General Urban Studies Student Scholarship
Amount: $2,500
Purpose: Undergraduate or graduate student tuition & fees during 2017-2018 year
Eligibility criteria: Enrolled full-time for at least one quarter during the 2017-18 year and be accepted to or enrolled in an Urban Studies degree program - Urban Studies (BA), Sustainable Urban Development (BA), Master of Arts in Community Planning, or Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies.
Other Scholarships
General UW Tacoma Scholarship Application
Open to: All newly admitted or continuing undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of Washington state and are federal or Washington state financial aid eligible.
Award: Up to $2,000 over one academic year
Application available: March 1
Application deadline: April 30
Fellowship Opportunities
The Office of Student Fellowships & Awards (OSFA) supports UW Tacoma students in their applications for competitive institutional, national, and international fellowships. In collaboration with campus partners, the OSFA raises awareness of fellowship opportunities, helps students develop the skills and personal insights necessary to pursue scholarships, and provides assistance throughout the application process.
