What type of work may I do?
Services you perform under a VA work-study program must be related to VA's work. Examples of acceptable work are:
- Maintaining and organizing Military-Connected students-related files.
- Performing outreach services under the supervision of our Veteran Benefits Advisors.
- Providing assistance to Military-Connected students with general inquiries about Veteran benefits via phone, email, or in-person
- Assisting with disseminating general information regarding Veteran benefits and/or services.
How can I be eligible?
- You must be enrolled at least 3/4 times or more and utilizing GI Bill® Veterans benefits at UW Tacoma.
- Work Study Salary: The minimum wage in Tacoma.
- Work Study Pay: Timecards are submitted for every 50 hours worked or Every 2 Weeks—up to 25 hours of work per week each quarter. These earnings are tax-exempt.

How do I sign up for other locations?
Call the Department of Veteran Affairs regional office at 1-800-827-1000 (or 1-800-829-4833 for the hearing impaired) and ask for the current listing of authorized work-student locations in your city.
Students may obtain employment at the VA Medical Facility, VA Regional Office or at other approved state employment facilities. Students are paid at federal or state minimum wage, whichever is higher, and these payments are nontaxable.
