Meet the Veterans Navigator (Vet Nav)

The Veterans Navigator (Vet Nav) is a key resource at UW Tacoma, created through a partnership with the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs. This role is designed to help transitioning veterans find the support and tools they need to succeed.

What the Vet Nav Does:

Referrals: Connects student veterans to on-campus and off-campus services.
Campus Guidance: Helps newcomers understand campus culture and what to expect.
Social Support: Offers a friendly ear and encourages engagement opportunities.
Peer Mentorship: Acts as a mentor, sharing experiences and insights.

Our Veterans Navigator is a current or recent student who knows the challenges facing veterans and is well-informed about community services. They also have direct access to resources from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Office of Student Fellowships & Awards is here to support students who want to apply for scholarships and fellowships. We focus on specific opportunities like the Tillman Scholarship, which is available for active-duty service members, veterans, and their families.

Another great option is the CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service (SFS), funded by the National Science Foundation (https://www.tacoma.uw.edu/set/admission/cybercorpsschol). Since its launch at UW Tacoma in 2019, several veteran students have received this prestigious scholarship, and we encourage more of our veteran students to apply!
