“I was born and raised in Australia and always knew I wanted to travel and see the world. I began my journey by studying for my undergraduate degree in both Hawaii and North Carolina. After graduating I worked with the Education Channel in Florida. I attended Graduate School first in Italy and then New York. I lived in Italy for two years and while there I worked with American Students and led them on educational tours from Rome to Paris to London. After continuing my journey to the Pacific Northwest I worked with international students at Tacoma Community College and now call the University of Washington home working with undergraduate academic advising as an academic counselor. My favorite places to visit are Denmark, Scotland and France. My motto? A smile is worth a thousand words."

Laila Markland
Hello Hello! My name is Laila Markland (she/they) and I’m the program coordinator for Take Care Tuesdays. I’m a current sophomore majoring in psychology, and I joined the HSS team recently in October 2023. I’m very passionate about understanding psychology in a way that isn’t rooted in western medicine, and normalizing conversations surrounding mental health; something all humans deal with in different capacities. I love to read, travel, dance, and one of my favorite pastimes is going to concerts when I’m able! If you have any questions about Take Care Tuesdays, or if you have any ideas on programs you might want to see- please reach out, I’d love to hear from you!

"My name is Toan Nguyen, and I am currently a junior/soon-to-be-senior majoring in Computer Science and Systems. I am working for the University Academic Advising as a Student Advising Mentor. As a Computer Science major, I think it is easy to guess that my passion is coding. I used to participate in a lot of programming contests. Back in Vietnam, I competed in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Vietnam National Round and qualified for the Asia Pacific level (the last round before the World Final.) Here at UW Tacoma, I participated in the ICPC Pacific Northwest and ranked 4th in Washington state, 23rd in total standing. Feel free to contact me if you want to learn more about competitive programming or have questions about registration tools and campus resources here at UW Tacoma."
