IMPORTANT UPDATE
Shortages Impact Capacity
IFM Custodial team is impacted by staffing shortages due to unforeseen extended leave needs of existing team members and failed recruitment for additional staff to support Milgard Hall. While we work to expedite the procurement process for other external resource services, we ask folks to assist in minimizing workloads and be aware of campus cleaning prioritization.
Prioritized spaces will remain restrooms, classrooms, general food/eating areas for faculty/staff/students, and central (hallway) three-bin waste station removal. Locations impacted by reductions/cuts will include but are not limited to department suites, individual offices, and internal stairwells. Supplies and self-cleaning tools (vacuums, dusters, supplies) will be available at MDS 113 IFM suite for checkout as occupants need. All conference rooms will be cleaned two times per week versus daily.
We also ask that event managers evaluate the event cleaning needs of upcoming activities and identify when self-cleaning can occur on 25Live event forms to reduce the impact on the limited custodial resources. IFM appreciates your support during this challenging time, and for any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out for clarity and further detail awareness.
SPRING CLEANING
Guidance for the end of the academic year
With the end of the school year and spring cleaning around the corner, faculty and staff may be clearing out their offices, whether to leave for summer break or get organized for the new season. Whatever your plans, the IFM Custodial and Maintenance teams are here to assist with waste and recycling removal, confidential shredding and more.
General Schedule
Academic Spaces
All classrooms, conference rooms and breakout rooms are cleaned and disinfected daily by custodial team members.
Suites and Offices
All suites are on an every other week cleaning schedule, however receptacle waste removal is the responsibility of the occupants. Individuals are to take the waste from their offices or workstations and place it in corridor and open area receptacles. This allows custodial team members to focus on academic spaces and other central areas that have increased frequency needs. Additional receptacles have been placed throughout corridors to accommodate this and will be serviced at a minimum daily. Individual offices and workstations are serviced monthly, and receptacle waste removal is the responsibility of the occupants. Receptacle liners are provided at department suites for distribution and stocked on a regular basis. Food waste should never be left in receptacles in suites and offices, only placed within designated corridor receptacles.
Custodial Support for Events
Events that utilize university classrooms, conference rooms, Philip Hall or any other spaces that include food should be scheduled for custodial services cleaning via 25Live. Advance notice is encouraged so building occupants and IFM can make the necessary arrangements for these support services.
If you prefer to self-clean, please add a note on FS Task Item in 25Live and we will verify if it is allowable for that space.
Please note if your event enlists Facilities Resources such as custodial cleaning, extra trash receptacles, water or electrical and you need to cancel within 5 days of your event, you are required to contact IFM directly via phone 253-692-5700. If you do not cancel directly, you may incur a charge.

- Paper towels are a minimum of 40% post-consumer waste.
- Cleaning products are typically Green Seal approved.
