Since opening in 1997, the UW Tacoma campus has evolved continuously to meet the growing and changing needs of our campus community. The IFM Planning and Development team guides this evolution, collaborating with a range of stakeholders to vision, plan, and implement small and large projects, always with an eye toward meeting the needs of the campus and the community. The result is a truly unique university setting, a built environment dedicated to student success and to UW Tacoma's urban serving mission.

CAMPUS PROJECTS HIGHLIGHT
CARD READER UPGRADES NEARLY COMPLETE
Over two hundred…that is the number of Husky Card compatible card readers that will have been installed across campus by the end of 2022. As part of a multi-year project to upgrade UW Tacoma’s aging access card entry system, new readers have been installed on all building entries as well as on interior spaces requiring controlled access. The project was led by Jennifer Myers, Construction Project Manager, who was able to successfully source the new readers system in spite of significant supply chain delays caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to Jennifer’s hard work, UW Tacoma students, faculty, and staff can now add ready access to campus buildings to the list of functions supported by the Husky Card—one card that does it all!

Conversations on the Future
As part of our strategic campus planning process, we looked to the future of UW Tacoma. Not just five years from now, but 10, 20, even 30 years ahead. Knowing what we want our campus to become can shape the decisions we make today.
The Office of the Chancellor hosted a series of panel discussions in 2023 called "Conversations on the Future." These looked at different aspects of our growth and what will influence the future state of UW Tacoma. Recordings of each are available below.
Open Public Spaces – June 13, 2023
Public spaces are the glue that holds cities together. They provide a space that is open and accessible for everyone to enjoy. A successful public space should serve as a gathering point and provide visitors with a sense of arrival. Building on our March 8 discussion, this conversation will be about open public spaces, their role in a thriving urban environment, and UW Tacoma’s potential role to be downtown Tacoma’s outdoor “living room.”
On The Edges – March 8, 2023
What does the future hold for the neighborhood that borders our campus? How is it expected to grow and change? How do we want the surrounding neighborhood to grow and change? Join us for the first in a series of conversations on the future at UW Tacoma, and how we plan, grow, and contribute to a downtown that’s thriving and accessible.
Vision 2050 – December 13, 2022
These conversations started at the Chancellor's Town Hall in December 2022 where panelists, Linda Hurley Ishem (emeritus faculty in Urban Studies), Rubén Casas (Assistant Professor, SIAS), Cheryl Greengrove (Associate Professor, SIAS and AVC for Research) and Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange discuss how the campus should grow over the next 25 years.
