UW Tacoma utilizes an electronic access card-operated security system to control after-hours access to buildings and most computer labs and classrooms. Most individual offices are secured with standard key locks.
If you need to be in a campus building after regular working hours, notify your supervisor or instructor as well as the Campus Safety officer on duty so they can consider your safety during their patrols.
Some campus rooms are protected by intrusion alarms. Campus Safety & Security should be called before entering these areas.
Always 9-1-1 in an emergency.
Our staff will also be notified to respond.
As of November 1, 2022, all metal key access requests are administered and distributed through Integrated Facilities Management. See below for details.
Requests for metal keys and cipher locks are now handled by Integrated Facilities Management. Access Coordinators should submit a Key Issuance Work Order Request when requesting metal keys. Submit a Work Order Request for cipher lock changes.
All card access requests are handled through the Card Access Request Form linked below. Only those with Access Coordinator permissions are able to make access requests. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please email email@example.com before submitting.
Access Coordinators can make requests on behalf of the following people:
- New employees who need card access for office suite, classrooms and buildings
- Staff/Faculty who need to change their access card to enter other buildings or rooms
- Staff/Faculty who need to change their access card for a change in their working hours
- Staff/Faculty who have lost or had stolen their access cards
- Staff/Faculty who are having problems with access cards not working
When you make a request please specify which campus buildings, rooms and hours are needed to ensure that electronic cards are issued to authorized faculty and staff.
You should receive an email response within three business days. Please send any questions regarding card access to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Report Lost or Stolen Keys
All lost or stolen keys and access cards must be reported immediately to Campus Safety & Security.
You should also contact Campus Safety with any card access issues (e.g. card not working during requested hours or for appropriate areas).
