Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
We celebrate national heritage and history months at UW Tacoma to build bridges of understanding. We are deeply proud of the rich backgrounds and life experiences represented within our Tacoma Husky community. We know our collective stories aren’t left at the door when we step onto campus; they come with us and remind us of the connections we share and the new ones we have yet to discover.
From September 15 to October 15, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the histories, vibrant cultures, and countless contributions made by those whose ancestors came from Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
This year's national theme, “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future," serves as a powerful reminder of the many ways Hispanic and Latine individuals have positively contributed to the U.S. and the world through the sciences, literature, arts, and the economy, strengthening our multicultural nation.
Our campus community will host events in recognition of this month, including programs to observe traditions, share history, imagine futures, and even partake in lunchtime dance lessons. These activities create spaces for connection and learning from one another. Thank you to everyone who is involved in organizing!
You can find more community events happening this month across the South Sound by visiting Pierce County’s website.
