A tragic loss for the UW community
In the wake of President Jones’s message about the heartbreaking loss of a UW Seattle student this past Sunday, I want to share some resources for those who may be seeking support.
The loss of a fellow UW student weighs heavily on all of us. Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends and all who are grieving during this extremely difficult time.
While this incident did not occur on our campus, we recognize that this may also carry particular weight for members of our LGBTQIA+ community and raise concerns about the safety of transgender members of our community. Please know that you are seen, you are valued, and we are here to support you.
We encourage those who are in need of support to reach out and connect with the resources available on our campus.
- Students can access confidential care through UW Tacoma’s Psychological & Wellness Services.
- Faculty and staff can receive assistance through the Washington Employee Assistance Program (WA EAP).
- Anyone with concerns about their own safety or well-being, or about someone else's, can contact SafeCampus to discuss the situation anonymously and receive guidance.
For those who would like to be in community, the Center for Equity and Inclusion is offering a space of support today (May 12) and tomorrow (May 13), from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Lavender Lounge (SNO 150). There is no set agenda — it is simply a time to come together.
Please continue to take care of yourselves and one another as we navigate this difficult time together.
