There are times when the best way to work on personal change and understanding is within a group setting. This provides the opportunity to share and learn from others, to improve specific skills, and to receive feedback and support. All groups are confidential.
Below are the current group therapy opportunities through Psychological and Wellness Services. If you are interested in joining a group, call 253-692-4522 or e-mail uwtpaws@uw.edu for more information
IMPORTANT: We are not legally allowed to provide therapy or other clinical services outside of Washington State. You must be in Washington State at the time for each teletherapy appointment, including group therapy.
You must be a registered UWT student to participate in PAWS offerings.
A short meeting with one of our psychologist is required to participate in group therapy. This helps us explore your hopes for group and gives you the opportunity to meet the group facilitators. Groups are held in person or via Zoom. Masks are no longer required for in-person groups. Date and time of groups are dependent on student schedules

Understanding Self and Others
Understanding Self and Others is a weekly process group for students who hope to connect with others by sharing personal experiences. By attending, group members can increase their understanding of themselves and their relationships, practice new ways of communicating and have authentic experiences while giving and receiving support. Previous individual therapy experience is preferred to join this group.

Build Your Social Confidence
For many people, it’s hard to know what to say or how to interact in social situations. Prolonged isolation during the age of social distancing has increased anxiety for many when it comes to interacting with others. Even those who felt mostly okay in social situations might second guess how they interact socially. Many of us have simply forgotten how to be friends and interact with one another. This group intends to connect students interested in practicing social skills and easing potential anxiety associated with socializing with others. This might include skills like initiating conversations, practicing small talk, speaking up for oneself, and challenging a tendency toward solitary activities. No previous therapy experience is necessary to join this group.

Healthy Minds
Psychological and Wellness Services will be offering a Healthy Minds group this quarter. The healthy minds group is for students who would like help managing stress, depression, and anxiety. Students who attend will learn about behavioral, cognitive, and emotional aspects of wellness and have opportunities to develop stress reduction and relaxation skills. Some of these skills include mindfulness, diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and self-care/social-care scheduling. The group consists of three, 45-minute sessions.

Mindfulness Workshops
Psychological and Wellness Services offer mindfulness workshops throughout the quarter based on student interest. Mindfulness is a scientifically researched and powerful method for reducing stress, managing pain, increasing focus, regulating emotions, and increasing one’s sense of wellbeing and happiness. In this open group you will learn mindfulness through a variety of guided awareness exercises which include body relaxation, breathing, and movement. Please contact PAWS if interested in participating in a mindfulness workshop.
