Global Impact Course
Global Impact is an early fall service learning abroad program with a focus on healthcare, sustainable communities, and volunteer service in the developing world offered by Seattle Colleges.
Students join faculty, staff, healthcare professionals and community members, to support local healthcare and other volunteer services in developing countries during early fall 2017. Please note that you will only be able to earn UW credit if you enroll in the accompanying 5 credit TBIOMD 490 class in the fall.

Eligibility
Undergraduate and graduate students from any UW campus may apply. UW students are eligible to receive academic credit for participation in the program only if they enroll in the accompanying TBIOMD 490 class in the fall. These credits will satisfy the Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Environmental Studies capstone requirements, and the class is taught by UW Tacoma professor Erica Cline, Ph.D.
Students can choose from one of the following program Global Impact options:
Ghana Expedition
Dates: August 20 – September 3, 2017 Note: Dates do not include travel time to and from destination.
The program site is Keta, a coastal town in the Volta Region of Ghana which has experienced tremendous impact from erosion – the sea reclaiming land. On this program, you will be working with rural communities, conducting health clinic outreach campaigns, teaching health education regarding nutrition and sanitation — and will be involved in a variety of infrastructure initiatives related to public health.

Explore India
Dates: August 20 – September 3, 2017 Note: Dates do not include travel time to and from destination.
The program is based in rural communities and slums surrounding Goa. Global Impact participants will engage in medical/dental clinics in villages alongside Indian healthcare practitioners, provide healthcare education and help to further develop some community infrastructure.
Program Cost: $1,395
Magical Morocco
Dates: August 20 – September 3, 2017 Note: Dates do not include travel time to and from destination.
The program starts in the city of Agadir and travels into the countryside to work in the rural village region of Riad Imsouane. During the two weeks in country, you will volunteer in health clinics, engage in health education and support different public health projects including sustainable farming and helping to test water supplies.

Discover Laos
Dates: August 21 – September 1, 2017 Note: Dates do not include travel time to and from destination.
The program begins in Luang Prabang, in northern Laos, which has been inhabited for thousands of years and was the royal capital of the country until 1975. Participants will travel to villages in the remote countryside to engage in healthcare and infrastructure projects.

Steps students take to receive UW academic credit:
- Apply to the Global Impact Program through Seattle Colleges before June 1: Global Impact APPLICATION
- Once Seattle Colleges has accepted you to the program, please email your proof of acceptance to the Office of Global Affairs at UW Tacoma [uwtintl@uw.edu] and to Dr. Erica Cline [ecline@uw.edu].
- You will be charged a $150 Administrative Fee upon acceptance to program.
- In order to receive UW credit for this program, students must enroll in the 5CR TBIOMD490 Global Impact course during fall term. This course will be taught by Dr. Erica Cline. As it is instructor permission only, you must submit your proof of acceptance in order to register, and you must complete the Global Impact program, or you will be withdrawn from TBIOMD 490 before it begins and will not receive credit.

Orientation
To be eligible to study abroad, all program participants must attend an in-person pre-departure orientation facilitated by the Office of Global Affairs/UW Study Abroad as well as your Global Impact safety orientation (June 24th) and your program-specific orientation, both offered by Seattle Colleges.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Students receiving financial aid which they intend to apply toward the program cost should consult with a financial aid adviser before applying to the program. Some sources of funding, i.e. the GI Bill, do not cover the cost of study abroad programs. Check with a financial aid advisor to understand how your funds apply toward study abroad. Please bring the China student financial aid budget form with you to your meeting.

Changes in Costs or Scope of the Program
In the event of significant devaluations of the dollar, some adjustments to program activities may be necessary. If there are any political events that might compromise the safety of the participants, a rescheduling or cancellation of the program may be necessary. If such changes occur, students will be notified of the changes and options will be presented.
Program Cancellation
If viable enrollment is not reached by June 15, 2016, individual programs may be cancelled. Participants will be given the opportunity to switch to one of the other programs.
