In memory of Bishop Curtis Montgomery and his wife Dr. Elinor Montgomery, the School of Social Work and Criminal Justice is pleased to announce the Montgomery Scholarship. With the continued support of the Montgomery Family book-aid scholarships are available. These one-time awards are available to UW Tacoma students enrolled in social work degree programs with awards intended for BASW students and MSW students. The Montgomery’s wish was to encourage student leadership and excellence and to aid students struggling with the financial undertaking of higher education. As such, preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are members of Phi Alpha and have the highest financial need. Financial need will be determined by the UW Tacoma Financial Aid Office with data received from the individual's current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file.
Criteria:
- Currently enrolled University of Washington Tacoma MSW or BASW student in good standing, with successful completion of at least one quarter of coursework.
- Preference given to Phi Alpha members and students who have financial need.

The University of Washington Title IV code is 003798. Please note that while the priority deadline has passed, it is not too late to complete the FAFSA if you have not previously done so.
- A personal statement addressing the importance of this social work education to your professional goals, any sacrifices you are making as a result of pursuing and prioritizing your education, and what receipt of the Montgomery Scholarship would mean to you. The length of the essay should be 1 page, typed, double spaced and 11 or 12 point font.

As a result of continued and generous donations to the University of Washington Tacoma School of Social Work and Criminal Justice scholarships may be available for distribution.
The one-time awards are available to UW Tacoma students enrolled in social work and criminal justice degree programs, with one award intended for a student from each program: Criminal Justice (CJ), Social Welfare (BASW), and Social Work (MSW).
Criteria:
- Currently enrolled University of Washington Tacoma CJ, BASW, or MSW students in good standing at the time of scholarship application with successful completion of at least one quarter of coursework in their major/program by the time of the scholarship disbursement.
- Continuous enrollment from winter quarter through spring quarter.

Established by Steve (UWT MSW alum) and Joane Moceri (former UWT Nursing faculty), the distributions for this fund are split between Social Work and Nursing. For our program’s portion, the purpose is to directly support graduate students in the MSW degree program. Student selection is based on academic merit or financial need (financial need not required). Students of color and first generation students are strongly encouraged to apply. Must be current students in good academic standing at the time the funds are awarded and distributed. Any MSW student who is a prior recipient of this fellowship can reapply for the fellowship in a subsequent academic year.
Criteria:
- Currently enrolled University of Washington Tacoma MSW student in good standing at the time of the fellowship application with successful completion of at least one quarter of coursework by the time of the fellowship disbursement.
- Continuous enrollment from winter quarter through spring quarter.

This fellowship provides funds to support MSW students. Please discuss in detail your commitment to the social work profession and how you have utilized your social work knowledge and expertise to promote social justice, address a specific social problem, and work with diverse communities; discuss what you hope to do after receiving the fellowship.

As a result of a generous donation from Marc Walters, the University of Washington Tacoma School of Social Work and Criminal Justice is offering three scholarship opportunities in the amount of $1000 each to UW Tacoma students enrolled in social work, social welfare and criminal justice degree programs who are working or have an interest in utilizing behavioral health skills in their future employment. This includes de-escalation skills, anger management, addictions treatment, stress and coping, mindfulness, treatment adherence, crisis intervention, etc.
Application procedures are described below. Eligible applicants are students continuing their degree progression in Spring quarter 2023, when the scholarship funds will be awarded. Successful recipient(s) will be encouraged to write a “thank you” to the donor.
Criteria:
- Currently enrolled University of Washington Tacoma CJ, BASW, or MSW students in good standing at the time of scholarship application with successful completion of at least one quarter of coursework in their major/program by the time of the scholarship disbursement.
- Continuous enrollment from winter quarter 2023 through spring quarter 2023.

- A personal statement addressing your interest in and goals related to behavioral health, and how you plan to utilize behavioral health skills in the field upon graduation from UW Tacoma. The length of the statement should be 1-2 pages, typed, double-spaced, with 11 or 12 point font.
