What is the Simon Family Endowment Autism MSW Fellowship?
The Simon Family Endowment Autism MSW Fellowship is a competitive, practicum-based opportunity for Master of Social Work students at UW Tacoma. Established in 2017, the Fellowship supports future social work professionals committed to lifelong care for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Intellectual Disabilities (ID).
Who is eligible to apply?
- Current or incoming UW Tacoma MSW students
- Students committed to serving adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities
- Applicants who can participate in field instruction placements focused on ASD and related care
What does the Fellowship offer?
- Up to $6,000 per academic year (subject to funding availability)
- Quarterly disbursements:
- First-year Fellows: Summer thru Winter Quarters
- Second-year Fellows: Summer thru Spring Quarters
- Field placement in agencies serving adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities
- Training in advocacy, skill development, and holistic care
What is the purpose of the Fellowship?
- Help promote independence and dignity for adults with ASD
- Support social, employment, and behavioral health needs
- Become skilled practitioners and community advocates
- Respond to the urgent need for neurodiverse care in the South Sound region
